Common Bond Brewery Review

Common Bond Brewers was the first out-of-town brewery we visited on our year long journey to craft breweries around the US, and we left saying, “I think we just had one of the best brewery experiences we’ll have all year!” Even while I write this, 9 breweries later, I still look on our time at Common Bond with fondness.

Newly opened, Common Bond Brewers shares the belief that people who come together and share a good beer create a bond. 

We always say, “Some of the best conversations in life happen over a beer.” Common Bond puts it a little more eloquently,

“Inspired by the way that relationships can be forged over a few shared pints, our vision for creating Common Bond was to build something that would help people connect with each other and with their community.”

Audrey and I were met with a warm smile and welcome by the co-founder, Andrew McNally who spoke with us about the location and the history of how Common Bond came to be. 

As Andrew showed us the facility he looked up and explained, “We love this place. You feel like you’re in a barrel.” 

Above the taproom there are several windows allowing sunlight to fill the room. The historical structure of the building is in tact; you’ll find yourself enjoying the care that was put in to converting this old Montgomery stable to a modern day craft brewery. 

Common Bond Brewery takes pride in the historical significance the downtown Montgomery district provides, hoping to play an active role in the city’s ongoing revitalization efforts. Some of the ingredients are sourced locally and the spent hops are shared with farmers in the area. Common Bond is thinking through more than just the impact a cool gathering place and good beer can have on the community – they know the importance of local farmers and are hoping to play a role in their success. 

Now to the beer!

Andrew hooked us up with a good variety of the beers on tap while we were there. While we enjoyed the Hop Workshop series (a rotating series of tasty IPA’s), the Blonde and the IPA – our clear favorite was one Andrew first brewed up for his wife long before Common Bond: the Crema Stout. We even got one canned up for us to take on the road.

A short drive from Atlanta, Birmingham, Auburn; If you haven’t visited Montgomery, AL, Common Bond should be your reason to do so!
